Paweena shared with me this artist that she found. His name is John Clang and he lives in NY. Also displaced from home, many of his projects have similar autobiographical references. The artist deals with the struggle of being away from home. The photo above juxtaposes pictures from Iceland and photos of people on the streets of NYC–meshing two opposite worlds together. This exposes the possibility of people being in two places at once.
Text below from artist’s website.
The images were produced in two different localities, New York City and Reykjavik (64.1˚N 21.9˚W). I’ve ‘abducted’ the people from the busy streets of New York City and transported them to a rural segment of Iceland. By placing these New Yorkers out of their original context, I’m raising questions on our identity and also, if the environment has any effect on who we are.
